Now it is the largest Confucius Temple in China. Most of the existing buildings were completed in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, covering an area of 0.218 square kilometers with nine courtyards. In the temple, there are 464 halls, altars, pavilions and other buildings. Surrounded by red walls and with turrets at the four corners, it was built in the style of the Forbidden City in Beijing. Qufu Confucius Temple is called an “isolated example” in the history of world architecture by architect Liang Sicheng.
