When Confucius was in Wei state, he found the mourning rites going on for a man with whom he had formerly lodged. Entering the house, he wailed for him bitterly, and when he came out, he told his disciple Zigong to take out a horse of his carriage, and present them as his gift. Zigong asked, "Isn't the gift too heavy?" Confucius said, "How can I only shed tears but have no gifts? It's not conform to the etiquette."
